The picture tells all, yes my lil guy was in the hospital. All hooked up with an IV and a special tube going down his nose into his tummy. Why were we there you ask, well my lil guy has a long history of severe consiptation and fecal impaction. It has typically cleared with OTC meds but this time no OTC med was doing any good. So at the request of his GI(gastroentologist)he needed to be hospitalised for a "clean Out". They were kind enough to place him to sleep for the nose tube....then the nose tube pumped him slowly with some powerful meds called Go Litely. It took a good 12 hours before it kicked in but once it did it really flushed him out. He spent a day and half in the Children's Unit. He seems to be back to his normal self today just a bit tired from the lack of sleep the days prior to coming home.We are hoping that with some laxatives we will be able to keep the system moving. Meanwhile next week he is scheduled for a rectal biopsy and a barium xray. This problem has gone on for so long (for 3 yrs 9 months exactally) I hope we can finally get it solved and corrected. And he is only 4 years 4 months old!I have to say as a parent and being our first hospital stay (minus birth/NICU) it was a positive one. The nurses were outstanding and very caring,loving and respectful to the patient. They had awesome programs there for the kids a playroom, visiting dogs, craft activities and Child Life specialists that would come and visit and bring gifts. I think the child life lady that came in to show our little guy what was gonna happen on a doll (the IV) really helped him get over the fear of the IV. They had him help step by step to give the doll an IV. Eventhough it was a positive experience for us as parents I just hope we don't have to repeat it again!

Well on Saturday my lil snuggle puppy had an evaluation for theraputic horseback riding. He was very hesitant to get on the horse at all, but he did it! We only did 1lap around the arena and by the end he had a small smile. We hope to start the program within the next few weeks as soon as the funding has been approved.

BENEFITS of Therapeutic Riding

Since therapeutic horsemanship has so many positive components, the audiences that can benefit from these unique activities are tremendous. Of course this includes individuals with physical challenges such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, Down syndrome, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, paraplegia, quadriplegia, and physical limitations resulting from brain injury. Individuals with developmental delays, autism, learning disorders, attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity, mental retardation, and other cognitive challenges have benefited tremendously from participating in therapeutic riding and horsemanship activities. Also, therapeutic horsemanship has been shown to help individuals with emotional problems such as emotional disturbance, eating disorders, depression, control issues, and excessive fear. Anyone who can benefit from physical activity, being outdoors with animals, learning new skills and establishing new relationships can benefit from therapeutic horsemanship

increased self-respect and self-awareness
improved attention span, concentration, and memory skills
increased vocabulary
improved verbalization skills
improved self-discipline
alleviated fears
a sense of self-achievement which leads to increased self-esteem
PHYSICAL BENEFITS may include:

relaxation of spastic muscles
increased strength and muscle tone
improved coordination
improved balance
increased mobility
increased head and neck control
improved posture
increased endurance and therefore cardiovascular functions
spatial awareness
With some riders who are physically challenged, the object is to use the horse to manipulate the rider’s body. This compels the rider to work to maintain a balanced and centered position, maintain good posture, strengthen muscles not often used and to gain more control of their own body position and movements. Since the walking gait of the horse simulates the human gait, the movement can “teach” the rider what it feels like to walk properly when he or she is off the horse.

development of peer relationships, acceptable behaviors, and improved attitude

The fence in this work was inspired by Thom’s neighbor’s wooden fence. The time of the painting is set at dusk, and the light post is welcoming people into their home.

Although you do not see the sun, it is in the center of the painting – which is a symbol for God – unseen yet the central part of our lives. There are some references in this painting to the Holy Trinity – three points on the cross and three ledges of rock approaching the cross. The mountains in the paintings are based upon a trip Thom took to the Hawaiian volcano, Halenkala. If you look closely in the light of the sun, you can see an image of a cross.
